There’s a good reason why the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the country: They keep adding flights!
On Wednesday, VPS announced a new nonstop flight to Chicago.
United Airlines has announced their debut of non-stop service from the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) beginning on June 8, 2019. The weekend air service to Chicago will be operated on the Bombardier CRJ-200 regional jet on Saturdays and Sundays.
This is the first time in VPS history that two carriers offer service to the same destination.
United Airlines announced earlier that the company planned to add 11 new routes as part of an expansion strategy. This route is one of them.
In a press release, Tracy Stage, Okaloosa County Airports Director said,
“Chicago is a strong originating market for our local area, and with the service beginning during our busy summer travel season, we are confident in its performance. Over 1.4 million passengers are projected to have traveled through our doors in 2018, and every passenger brings visitor spending to energize our local economy. We are thrilled to welcome passengers from Chicago to our beautiful Emerald Coast and connect with United’s largest hub, and are very proud to land our local residents non-stop service to the Windy City.”
Tickets for the flight are on sale now.
So what do you think? Personally, I love see the new nonstop flights being added. Anytime we don’t have fly to Atlanta or drive to Pensacola for a nonstop flight…the better!
