I can remember graduating Fort Walton Beach High School (VAKA) in 2004 and knowing just how poppin’ the International Lounge was.
The International (as it was simply called) opened in 1999 and quickly became a go-to spot to hangout, drink cheap beer and was more like a club.
Once I could drink, I hit the International to see what it was all about!
I never was much of a pool player and the lounge evolved into a place that hosted many pool leagues and retained regulars. For me, and most of my friends, the International Lounge became a place we went randomly.
A lot has changed in Downtown Fort Walton Beach over the course of 20 years (and a lot more will continue to happen in the years ahead) and the International has withstood the ups and downs. But now, the lounge will move on from Fort Walton Beach.
According to a new report
from the Northwest Florida Daily News, The International is packing up and headed West to the old County Line Pizza building in Mary Esther.
In talking with the paper
, owner Dave Biedlingmaier said,
“There are just too many bars in this area now. It hurt us when the Block opened back up. We were making it, but just not as well as we used to make it.”
The Lounge even added a brand new kitchen but it never took off. Our very own Whitney Lee, who hosts the Everything Show, told me about this awesome new food spot call Fat Stacks and raved and raved one morning during filming about all the amazing food they had on the menu.
Fat Stacks was inside the International Lounge.
With a new location comes a new approach. The International will focus more on the lunch crowd and hopes to attract military given the location.
So, here’s to you, International Lounge! 🍻🍻🍻
