Good morning!
Yesterday I was invited to Emerald Coast Convention Center on Okaloosa Island for the kickoff to Operation Santa Boat.
Operation Santa Boat’s entire goal is to help deliver Christmas by boat to our neighbors to the East who have been severely impacted by Hurricane Michael.
The Emerald Coast CVB is banding together with the local maritime community to make this happen and will deliver them to families in Bay and Gulf Counties with the help of local charter captains.
If you would like to help, here’s how you can:
  • 🎁 Purchase gifts and drop them off at one of the many Operation Santa Boat collection points located throughout Okaloosa County.
  • 💻 Send gifts directly to the Emerald Coast Convention Center by purchasing them from their Amazon Wish List.
  • 🙌 Donate your time by volunteering at an Operation Santa Boat collection point or at the Emerald Coast Convention Center.
Drop-off Locations:
Operation Santa Boat is happening now through Saturday, December 15.
We put together a little video from yesterday that features the CVB, Saltwater Restaurants & Five Star Properties!

Power Bill scam hits local business
Past Due Notice scam
Past Due Notice scam
A Fort Walton Beach businessman is out nearly $2,000 after con artists somehow got their hands on an actual overdue past Gulf Power bill and mailed it to him, telling him to pay up immediately or face having his electricity turned off.
He followed the directions to obtain pre-paid MoneyPak cards and send the numbers to make the payment. The scammers also followed up the letter with a phone call from a 1-800 number.
What you need to know:
  • It is unknown as to how the con artists was able to get a copy of an actual overdue bill.
  • This is a new twist on an old scheme which focuses on threatening to turn off customers’ power for unpaid or overdue bills.
  • Beware of any unsolicited contacts asking for personal or account information, or of any entity asking for payment in prepaid money or gift cards.
  • Sophisticated scams such as this one are very prevalent through the mail, emails, and phone calls from con artists.
Ok, that’s all I have for you today. Hope you have a great Thursday and I’ll see ya tomorrow morning!
Jared
