I’m old enough to remember when we were the 904 area code. The 850 area code was originally a relief code as well, but that plan was scrapped and we have been the 850 since 1996-97.
With new phone numbers in high demand in Northwest Florida, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) yesterday approved an area code overlay that will add a new 448 area code to the area now served by the existing 850 area code.
The new area code overlay will affect only new phone numbers and is expected to begin in mid-2021.
According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, on Monday night 12-year-old Tyler Carach and his mother were at The Island Beachside Resort on Okaloosa Island with 20 dozen boxes of Dunkin Donuts to share with more than 90 law enforcement officers participating in the U.S. Police Canine national trials, hosted by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
As the NWFDN reports, Carach has visited all 50 states to thank law officers and, with the help of sponsors like Dunkin’ Donuts, has handed out more than 90,000 donuts.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Parkwood Estates Pool House at 2700 Bluewater Boulevard near Niceville yesterday morning.
The owner believes the damage took place between October 30th and November 4th.
