Good morning!
Before we get started with the Daily Rundown, just a quick heads up. I’ll be in Texas this week for Thanksgiving so the Rundown may be a little off-schedule. I still plan on getting it out in the morning but it might not be right at 7am like normal.
Ok! Let’s get to it…
Growing up in Fort Walton Beach (and graduating in 2004), the idea of a Destin High School never crossed my mind. It was normal for middle schoolers from Destin and Fort Walton to finally mix once they reached high school.
But things have changed drastically since 2004.
Members of the Destin community are actively seeking to establish a charter high school in Destin with “Destin High School Inc.” officially established as a not-for-profit corporation, according to The Destin Log.
According to Councilwoman Prebble Ramswell, who is also serving as the president of the corporation’s executive board, the non-profit will not be asking the City of Destin for funds but rather will be fund-raising through private donors.
“Once the school is up and running, we’ll be receiving per-student funding from the state.”
The Destin Log reports that the charter school would offer the following specialized programs:
  • Marine science
  • Environmental science
  • Cyber security
  • Hospitality and tourism
  • Various construction fields
No word yet on where this new school would we built.
So what do you think?
What’s your thought on Destin getting a charter school? Would love to hear your thoughts. Just click reply on this email to let me know :)
