Before we get started, let me just say that somehow I unintentionally went on a “newsletter Spring Break” last week. I blame my kids!
Okaloosa County’s surtax advisory committee confirmed the use of more than $2 million for updates to:
- The Triumph Gulf Coast Application
- Initial construction phase engineering services
- Alignment alternatives analysis
- And the design of Rasberry Road (link to Google map for those wondering where this road is.)
This marks the first half-cent sales tax money to be on the Southwest Crestview Bypass after voters ticked the ballot in its favor last November.
“This is the first two million dollars of more than 25-30 million dollars the county will spend on this project. The total cost is closer to $200 million dollars. We are leveraging our money with participation from the state Department of Transportation and Triumph to complete the project.“
The committee also recommended an application for matching grants from the state of Florida’s Department of Transportation for intersection improvements at Carmel Drive and Beal Parkway with a unanimous vote Thursday.
By doing so, the committee recommended to the Board more than $680,000 of sales tax revenues go toward the grant match, with the goal of receiving a matching amount of money from the State government.
The applications were due March, 21st, and The County should have a decision from the State in 30-60 days.
